I used to work part time for the Carrara Markets while I was at uni (very cool job actually ).

I suggest you spend some time there and chat to some of the stallholders - see which ones are making money and which ones are struggling.

The good thing about the markets is that you can rent a small covered table on a week to week basis and see how it goes without too much of a financial commitment.

My main gripe with the markets is that it sometimes feels a bit stagnant - same people selling the same product week after week.

Like any business, whatever channel you use to sell (store, direct, wholesale, online, markets etc) you have to be a little different or unique and grab peoples attention. Once you have their attention hopefully you can sell your product.

If you decide to have a stall, and then sell online also (maybe via ebay?) ensure people who look at you product at the markets can also find it on ebay if they want it.

    Good luck!
    Kris

Great info Kris.. especially since you used to work there.

It is important that you treat your stall like a real business, a lot of people that run market stalls treat them just as that, a small stall that only sells on weekends.

So get yourself some brochures, business cards, a website and even start your own online store.. that way you can ensure you are selling even when you arent at your stall.

What is it you are looking to sell?
