    Default E-Mail Marketing

I have been requested by a client to provide a newsletter type, e-mail marketing solution for them, can anyone recommend something, or point me in the right direction?

have a look at phplist - http://www.phplist.com/ seems pretty good, and you can CRON the jobs so that if you are on a shared server it doesnt use all the resources.

If your host has fantastico installed then it should be a preinstalled script for you.

MailBuild is great if you want to set up custom templates and have a super easy to use system they can manage themselves - you just get sent the profits each month. Freshview is an Aussie company who I interviewed a few months ago at Hatchthat.

Aweber is the king of subscription services ... aweber.com

I use 1shoppingcart.com - but then, I use the full version of that for product sales and stuff, so it's probably overkill for just a newsletter.

I've also heard good things about constantcontact.com - I used to use it when they had a trial that was free up to X members, but that was a year or so ago ... was good then, though.

    Hey Leela,

Thanks for the feedback, I have heard lots of good things about aweber and managing a list, I think I will look into it for sure.

I was hoping for more of a self hosted solution like phplist, but then I realized being on a shared host you are limited to the amount of emails you can actually send out per hour/day.

I have started to use phplist for now as my list base is under 2000 so this doesnt seem to impact the server on mailouts at all.. maybe as it grows I will look into a hosted solution

Just be aware that if you grow a decent list at one place then decide to move elseware you may have to ask people to opt in again and that could have a big effect on your subscriber numbers. I know it is tough but make the decisions early before you put a lot of effort into growth, move quickly if you're not happy or try a few out.

A newsletter is a template where we put news related to our website and then mail it to our clients. This is called e-mail marketing by newsletter. This is beneficial for both owner of website as well as clients.
