Spam in AussieTycoon

Hey All,

As you may have noticed we got hit pretty badly with SPAM over the past week, unfortunatley most of our team were on holidays and we missed it, thanks to those who reported it and let us know as soon as we were hit.

Hopefully we have resolved the issue now that has caused the spam and will get on top of it as soon as possible if it happens again!

Just an update on this, looks like we got hit again with spam.

So we have now taken extra measures to protect ourselves from unwanted guests, such as more robust human verification sign up techniques, and an upgrade in forum software to allow for greater spam prevention.

We thank you for your patience while we work to get rid of these guys.

I find the easiest way to get rid of spam is to hack your sign up page so there's something you actually have to click on and type your name in to sign up - with a funny name that humans don't see - otherwise they just automate the process with bots. Cut our spam signups on several forums down to zero.

We are trialing a few different methods at the minute, with varied success, I think the next step will be the custom fields at registration.
