For employees Tax is taken out of your pay packet automatically (so money is gone before you get your hands on it!). You may then get a refund or pay more (depending on your circumstamces) when you lodge a tax return. Tax returns need to be lodged at the end of October, unless you are using a tax agent, in which case it is March of the following year.

GST is charged and collected by the vendor when you purchase anything taxable.
