Thread: List Building

    Default List Building

OK. I give up on this one. Everybody keeps talking about lists and autoresponders and things that I've never heard of. Lists of what? I'm guessing it's a list of people you try to sell things to but how do you build one? I read that you can make a website page where you give something away to get a mail address but how do you go about doing that if you are new to online marketing.

I'm never going to understand all this, am I?

No its quite easy to get your head around it.

Basically the concept is to build a site with an opt in form that a user subscribes to with a valuable incentive you willing to offer.
Building lists are good for marketing your products to them, giving out recommendations, staying in touch with your customer base etc.

Best web platform to opt for is Wordpress! It's quite easy setting up a page with a subscriber form and get the ball rolling with a few plugins here and there.

Sounds much easier than I imagined. Read some more about lists and understand now that you have to sign up to an autoresponder service. Might try to add a squeeze page to my growing list of unfinished first projects now I know what one is! Just need to work on a giveaway to give them an incentive to opt in.

Just wondering what kind of website you have?
Because I use this really awesome WordPress plug-in makes setting up landing pages breeze,
I'm experimenting with it on my sites.
I'm also doing a redesign of my website which will make it very easy for people to subscribe on the front page
what kind of business you have?

Email marketing is a tricky thing to master. I currently have a few lists which I'm growing and will eventually try and monetise. For example a list of mine is run through my blog which is at www.sofamoolah.com - as you can see on the sidebar visitors can drop their email to receive a copy of my eBook. These types of incentives are good for increasing your conversion rate and work pretty well in my experience.

I recommend you check out AWeber (http://bit.ly/rGhXlp) if you're seriously interested in building a list. Pretty much everything you need to get started is on their site.

    Hello sam,

I took a look at your website, and it doesn't seem very personal… Is there a reason for that?
For example I couldn't find an about page or any information about you

yeah, but aren't those sign up things kind of cliched now. i mean everyone has one so don't people think 'not another one of those sign ups ... i already get too much junk in my email'. or do they still work?

They dont work as good anymore thats why the offer needs to be something they cant refuse...

I setup new clients with mailchimp which is free for first 2000 contacts. Aweber even though i use it and many of my clients use it i hate cause of the double optin BS and all the problems it causes moving people from a prospect list to a buyer list without having to DOUBLE optin them again...

If your looking for free autoresponder try MAILCHIMP ignore the Aweber affiliate link above.
Need work done to your website or need a website, but sick of paying those crazy prices?

    This.

Although I'm still getting some use from my lists, I reach my prospects in a variety of different ways. I know how sick to death I got of being riddled with mails and that's why I've unsuscribed from 95% of the lists I was on. A total waste of time receiving them, and only just a little bit better these days in terms of sending them out.

You can't afford to be in people's faces anymore. They WILL walk away. You have to actually be there when they NEED you so positioning is much more important than pain-in-the-ass reminders into inboxes every day.
