Why is your ABN so important when it comes to importing goods into Australia?

If importers have a unique 11-digit Australian Business Number (ABN), it must be supplied to Australian Customs before goods can be formally entered. Importers must also be registered for GST (Goods and Services Tax) purposes and have an ABN in place to claim input credits or to access the GST Deferral Scheme.
