Thread: Aussie Puts his life for sale...

Exclamation Aussie Puts his life for sale...

OK I'm not an Aussie but I am quite shocked that no one posted this article here already. Anyways the guy (who is Australian...or something like that...he lives in Australia) brakes up with his wife for 5 years one year ago. After trying to get through the divorce he finally decides that everything around him reminds him of her so he decides to sell his entire life...yes entire life. Job, house, friends, everything and start over.

When he leaves he will only have the clothes on his back and his passport (and of course at least 300,000) which he will use to start over a new life.

Here is the website if any of you Australians are interested.

www.alife4sale.com - Ian is selling his life: car, bike, jetski... as well as his house and everything inside. Buy it and he will walk away with only the clothes on his back

Yeah, I read about this awhile ago in MX; the idea is interesting, but it would be pretty weird to step into someone else's life. Imagine how his friends feel, basically being auctioned off. And everyone in the neighbourhood would know who you were, and the bizarre backstory behind it.

There's a poll on the website asking if "you could do it?". I'm not quite sure which it they're talking about, either buying a life or selling a life. But I am curious to see how this turns out.

lol, the majority of people in the poll said that it's an awesome idea, but majority also said " couldn't do it ". lol.

Its an awesome idea. I just dont know I could auction off my friends. I have some very close friends and couldn't see myself doing it.

Yeah, the friends issue is kind of the sticking point for me; however, by the same token, if one of my friends felt the need to escape his old life, I wouldn't want to be something holding them back. A little like Dylan's line in "If You See Her, Say Hello": 'I always admired what she did in getting free".

If you take a look at the FAQ's, he clearly outlines that he is not selling his friends... A few of his friends have agreed to extend a welcoming hand but that's about it... he actually gets a little heated when asked the question...

That is true, although elsewhere he does include them in the list of things being sold. He likes to have his cake and eat it, I guess.

As an aside, if I were a wealthy man named Ian Usher, I would definitely buy this life as a giggle - I wouldn't even have to update the Yellow Pages. And it would be surreal for everyone else. A man can dream, a man can dream.
