With the company we chose it was a similar case - we had them write some articles for us and they were shocking - it appeared they were out sourced to somewhere where English was a second language so we basically had to re write them. We selected the key word phrases which was good but I felt there implementation was terrible puting phrases onto pages that had nothing to do with the phrase etc.

I don't want to give "advice as such" but if you are already experiencing difficulties then I'd seriously consider parting ways. I know it's a hard thing when you are keen and sometimes desperate to get better rankings - trust me I know.

Thanks for your recommendation. Can you give me some advice about the on page rank optimization? I am having hard time to learn it.

I spoke with the guy yesterday and he was very apologetic. He gave me all the lines like "I'm going to give the copywriter a big kick up the arse" etc etc...

However... I must admit there has been a pretty dramatic improvement in my Google rankings since I brought these guys on board, and I've started getting a dribble of traffic from Bing and Yahoo that was previously non-existent, so maybe they are doing a good job.

Funnily enough though, despite the big move up the rankings I'm not really seeing much more traffic. Maybe I'm targeting the wrong keywords? I'll take that up with the SEO guys, they're the ones I'm paying every month to look after all this! :-)

Sorry for the delayed response - it's good to see things appear to be working in your favour - I hope this new traffic converts for you as that's the main goal - heading the the right direction though.

To answer your question - on page is everything relating directly to your site so your text your headings your on page keywords, your site functionality, structure etc. Off page is everything else from your business cards to your networking but more specifically back links - online networking such as this forum and others - articles you may write and then distribute etc. Hope that helps.

Anyone interested in SEO I wrote this tool below and put it on the internet for fun
    http://poilep.com

it tracks when you receive new backlinks from yahoo site explorer api.

I use it to track my competitiors and match them backlink for backlink so I can be competitive in google rankings

    Hi,

What do you guys think... which one is more effective: digital or in-store marketing?

    Best,

    Buddy

Alexa has dramatically changed the stats it gives recently - almost a free SEO report on its own.

I find it interesting that a lot of the long tail keywords I lost on my main site have transferred across to my secondary site, so I'm putting more effort into the secondary site now since the content is reasonably similar - it was, after all, inspired by the amount of traffic I was getting to the dictionary subsection of my main site.

I need more good incoming links to my secondary site though. Anyone got a good use for a http://photographicdictionary.com ?

    Hi Shane

It is a fine line between getting the on-site optimisation correct and having content that is 'plain wrong'!

If you look at lots of the good SEO companies they are great at hiding lots of the key phrases and LSI words. The can be no excuses for really bad mistakes but unfortunately I lot of SEO experts tend to forget that your customers will actually read your site

This sounds reasonable to me and is within budget. To pay any more than this we'd need a very compelling reason.I've found a few places that are priced around $400-$600 and guarantee page 1 results for at least one search phrase.

    Hi Shane,

We have created a small tool that you can use to generate an SEO Report for your website.

    Access it at - seotools.echodigital.com.au

The report gives you a list of specific, actionable problems that your website has so you can resolve them. Running the report again after fixing the problems shows you have fixed the problems.

Either yourself or your seo company can work through this list.
