i noticed the yellowpages have a free listing option yesterday, seems like more of a way for them to get people they can call up to offer their online yellowpages directory full service though.

i use the majority of them all the time. they are a great way to look at competitive businesses and as a method of comparison. These days anything online is useful, saves the time of looking through thousands of pages

I am wondering how successful it is a promotional tool. Has anyone have any stats say using google analytics that can say how much traffic the generate through directories?

Would be interesting to know the stats. I will probably go ahead and register on a few anyway but would be great to know if its worth really spending some more time so i get the results.

If no one does i will report back in a few weeks to let you know how i go.

Some of the directories send you their own stats. Our business has a 100% click through rate from the Google one
