Cool Entrepreneur - The Importance of Mindset

Below is a special story that a great entrepreneur friend and mentor
shared with me. I thought I will do the same with everyone here.
Please enjoy and keep moving forward!

A man found an eagle’s egg and put it in the nest of a barnyard hen.
The eaglet hatched with a brood of chicks and grew up with them.

All his life the eagle did what the barnyard chicks did, thinking he was
a barnyard chicken. He scratched and clawed the earth for worms and
insects. He clucked and cackled. And he would thrash his wings and fly
a few feet into the air.

Years passed and the eagle grew very old. One day he saw a magnificent
bird above him in the cloudless sky. It glided in graceful majesty among
powerful wind currents, with scarcely a beat of its strong golden wings.

The old eagle looked up in awe. ‘Who’s that?’ he asked.

‘That’s the eagle, the king of the birds.’ said his neighbor. ‘He belongs to
the sky. We belong to the earth—we’re chickens.’ So the eagle lived and
died a chicken for that’s what he thought he was.”

From the book “Song of the Bird” by Anthony de Mello

That's a pretty tragic metaphor albeit probably some truth in it.

How do you translate that into the human experience?
I have my own thoughts on how I interpret the story... simply that it reminds me of the saying, "it's hard to soar like an Eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys". Undoubtedly it's the sarcastic type of comment often made when someone feels he or she can't expect to reach great heights when others restrict him or her.

I think it is a little like saying those who you surround yourself with you become.. so if you want to be something different surround yourself with different people.

I bet if you look at your close group of friends, you all do the same things, have similar interests, heck probably even like the same clothes?

But.. do they aspire the way we do? If the answer is no, time for new friends!
