If you are selling software in Australia and New Zealand through a webshop, is it best to have a payment gateway or is it enough with Paypal?

Selling to private and small business.

Can you recommened a payment Gateway in Australia?

Or is there other great ways to pay through a webpages?

Cheers,

A few users I know rave about eway. But I personally think payment gateways are only worth spending on if you have substantial transactions happening on your site that justify the costs. Otherwise you could use Paypal for a while to get a feel for the volume of transactions before deciding to commit to a payment gateway

I myself prefer PayPal as I feel it offers the buyer a little more privacy and protection when making purchases. PayPal has pretty much become a popular household name, so I would run with that.

Must concur with Cashurwheels on this one. Eway gets the biggest raves. It also links in with NAB to provide multicurrency transactions (and, from what I have heard, they are the only ones to do this in Australia).

Agree with the other guys - start off with Paypal as I think it will initially be more cost effective and I believe most online purchasers are pretty comfortable with it.

Small businesses (especially in Australia) are often run on credit cards so maybe a merchant gateway would be more attractive to your target market?

If things kick off then maybe look at something like http://e-path.com.au/ in tandem with a merchant account.
