Hi all hope you can help. I am a 28 year old working as a contractor for a lease company. I lease equipment for ABN holders. How can i get more exposure to generate leads and sales. I have been trying the on road meet and greet cold call but have found it bloody hard going and very time consuming. How can i get associated with web sites or business that need my product? Please help.
Welcome, sounds like you have your work cut out for you. I guess the first thing is do you have a website?

Hi Jetzboy
The first 12-32 months of a startup can be the hardest, you are trying to find new clients, spending more money than your making and having to put in the hard long hours for little return.
The dream of being a business owner, the bright lights and fast cars you thought would come straight away don't seem as realistic as you first thought hey?
Stick with it.. if it was easy to run a business and make it work, everyone would be doing it wouldn't they?
At least you are doing more than most..
Try and partner up with businesses that compliment yours, such as tradies, builders, etc.. spread the word of what you offer and why you are better and different from your competitors.
Maybe look at some sort of referral plan, so when someone refers you business, they get something in their pocket.. or maybe you refer business to them.
Networking and meeting new people is one of the most effective ways of generating business.
If people don't know about you how can they find you!?

Mate, youve just switched on a light bulp in my brain. Im thinking i might leave some posters etc at retailers and supplier etc that tradies visit, just to get the word out. So simple dont know why i didnt think of that earlier.

Now youre thinkin!
Also, would it hurt to go to building sites where the kind of equipment you lease out is being used.. have a chat to the project manager or foreman, drop your card off and let them know what it is you do.
Those guys know all the trades working on a site and know whats going in and out and what sort of plant might be needed.. so could be a good way of getting solid contacts

Hi,
What type of equipment are you trying to lease. You probably need to specialise first, then expand once you have a solid client base.
Specialising will set you apart from the pack and will make you professional in that field. This will also help narrow down your target audience and be more time effecient in prospecting for new clients.
As your client base grows, then so can the range of equipment leases to adapt to each client. This will help in getting your foot in the door if the client feels you are a professional on a particular type of equipment lease.

The www is a great tool to help spread the word. I'm thinking that leveraging yourself by owning a website.
