How high do you think Westpac shares will go over the next 5 - 7 years? They are currently close to the $25 mark.

I think personally they may reach close to $60-$70 a share

Hard to know, really. Anything beyond about maybe three or four weeks is really starting to crystal-ball a little.

Traditionally, NAB always had the higher share price of the big four. CBA overtook them a few years back and have remained higher, and WBC have also bought more business which has helped them increase as well. We identified ANZ as being underpriced a short while ago and have done well since. I would expect them to be a little more proactive in the near future with both local and overseas acquisitions, as well.

Generally speaking, I like bank shares. They usually pay reasonable dividends and historically have stood up well. The government have indicated that they will move heaven and earth to protect the big four, which is certainly an advantage.

Haven't really answered your question, I know, but then I'm not licensed to either ;-) My own share trading strategies rely on very short term movements so forecasts of five to seven years aren't something I've given a massive amount of thought to.

Thanks for your reply. I guess it's always hard to tell what's going to happen over the next 5-7 years, but your right about the big 4 being pretty good. If only I had a spare 100K when westpac shares were at $14

You can really never tell What will happen the next day.

The bank yesterday booked a first-half profit of $2.88 billion, up 32 per cent, a record for Australia's second-largest bank. The profits prompted Mrs Kelly to defend the financial services industry from growing calls that the government's planned resource super-profit tax should be applied to the banks, which will earn at least $20bn this year.
