Some of you may have already heard, but Facebook have now implemented a new search feature that is said to give twitter a run for its money - check out the article here ( Facebook gets live status update search | News | News.com.au (http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,28348,25914817-5014239,00.html) )
Basically now when you do a search on facebook you have the option of searching other peoples live status updates, pictures, videos, links and notes.
This is extremely similar to how the twitter format works where you can search every single users twitter feeds to find out if someone is mentioning that search keyword in their tweets.
So what does this mean for facebook and twitter?
so, a big competition is going start between facebook and twitter...

A big competition between Facebook and twitter started a long time ago.
I think Facebook will win though, it offers so much more than Twitter does.

I see Twitters value in the ability to help things go viral via re-tweeting.
Almost every single blog I read has a little re-tweet button on it - and you can even put a re-tweet button into a PDF article / guide or white paper!
I know you can do this on Facebook - but I think Facebook is great for friends and social activities whereas Twitter is a good medium for people with a similar professional / business interest to interact.
It is all changing so fast it is hard to keep up!
I heard Michelle Gamble from Marketing Angels state that she estimated that she gets 30% of the new leads for her business via Twitter - so maybe it works better for certain industries than others?

Twitter is very powerful, especially now with Google real time search gaining some momentum.
For a few of our clients we are really using twitter in a way to drive traffic to their sites by using strategic tweets and key wording, and actually interacting with others in that market place.. needless to say sales have been ever increasing.
I think as the uptake of twitter pics up more and more people will use it in their every day life.
