The Iphone 3G?

One of my mates had the original one for a few months now, and has just got the free upgrade to the new 3G version.. I must say its a very slick peice of kit and will give lots of other phones a run for thier money thats for sure..

So has anyone got one? Or planning on it?

I can make calls and retrieve voicemail on my dinosaur.

I also drop mine from heights of 12m in cherry pickers etc and it still works, occasionally, so I wont be upgrading to the iphone any time soon.

nokia n95 has been out since march 07, that can do everything the iphone can...
nokia e65 is close, same with the navigator.

I tend not to talk about it cause everyone is just caught up in the hype, apple is one of the best marketing companies around if you ask me....

And why would anyone get rid of buttons, touch screens are shitty to type with and slow. Girlfriend has an ipod touch and boss has a iphone and typing is the thing that lets it down.

Nokia n96 is coming out soon, it can pick up digital tv plus everything the iphone can do.

I know i originally said that'd I'd buy one as soon as they come out... however, I"m still not sold that getting involved in all of this 'apple' hype is a good idea...

For me, I rely on my phone/pda device to do everything that i can do on my computer (kind of). The iPhone is a great device for listening to music, wathcing short video's and making phone calls. It's also pretty good for browsing the web. But there are other devices out there doing similar things just not as flashy.

For me however, i'm keeping my eye on the Blackberry thunder (release date pending)... Do a search, it's worth the check in.

Anyway, back to the drawing board of searching for the ultimate PDa device!!!

In my opinion the Nokia n95 would have to be the worst phone I have every used! poor battery life, ridiculously designed handset, slides two ways and changes the screen?? navigation is all over the place, GPS is slow and next to useless, and the internet browser is appalling, not to mention crappy wifi..

I do agree the iphone does need a keyboard, or at least something to give feedback. I did read somewhere that a new generation of iphone will have a touch screen that gives feedback to the user, so when you touch a key on the screen it feels like you have clicked a button.. if it did that then I can see it knocking a lot of other phones out of the water.

I recently did an analysis on the iphone 2 vs the blackberry 8310 in terms of which comes out on top for mobile email and internet.

Our findings found the only things that were poor on the iphone was the keyboard interface and the fact that it relies on operator data charges, as for everything else it smashed the blackberry.

Especially now with Iphone's support for MS exchange via the web into its built in email client, it means enterprises don't need to install an expensive Blackberry server nor enforce extra security, they can just use the exact same infrastructure they do for laptops and the iphone will work.

And that is the key to all of apples hardware.. they just work.

In saying that I still have a blackberry 8310.. and I do really like it.. but I'm almost turning into an Iphone man after using one for a week or so.

Following on from Brendans comments, there are the following phones trying to find them selves in the market pitching as 'i-phone killers'. They are touch screen and some of them even have haptic feedback (a little vibration when youtouch a key to make it feel like you've actually pressed a button).
