Facebook is a household name……and a must have business tool if you want to maximize your exposure on line. Some of the ways we use Facebook, might be for networking, getting feedback on ideas, making friends, learning, and a big one for solopreneurs is just flat out finding a connection so you don't feel so alone.

But then there is using Facebook to help build your brand through fans. Some of us use it as a tool to get to know our target market better, so we can serve them better; we ask questions, we are inquisitive, we post interesting facts, and offer reasons for our "fans" to engage on our page.

So how do we acquire these fans or followers.

1- Create a professional fan page of your business with well written company profile and a good number of images.

2- Start searching for other fan pages within your niche by using the search option and start liking pages and posting informative content that adds to the topic and don't forget to mention your fan page in every post.

3- Post your fan page on your wall and encourage your friends to like it.

4- Engage your new fans that like your page by providing good content that keeps them interested, don't saturate your page with adverts about your products or services.

5- Follow trends and keep your service more personalised by offering value in everything you do.

Other ways of acquiring fans/followers is through paid campaigns that target those fans/followers based on your niche/country.

Check out my link in the signature to find out more about this method.

Always remember there is no point of acquiring loads of new fans and followers if you are not prepared to spend the time engaging with them on many levels.

facebook is all the rage but most of my mates just use it to connect with girls. thats the problem with it. all these businesses want to speak to people on fb but no-one is really listening. everyone's too busy trying to get a date ... or whatevs your hobby on facebook.

I do agree with what you say, facebook could be used these days for a lot of things including business and pleasure. If you look through some of the big groups on fb today they mostly consist of products and services, and businesses these days are generating alot of interest through facebook by engaging their customers on many levels. If you are only selling on fb all the time then i can see you losing alot of fans on the page and with no to little results.

The service should be entirely personal to the customer and provides value to keep him/her interested.

So in follow up, what business models do really well selling only on FB?

There are a number of successful models on fb that sell well such as trivial products, companies that offer competitions and prizes, gaming products and many other products and services.

The bottom line is you can generate enough interest and eventually convert fans into sales, but in order to do that you need to be active, engaging, provide value and personalise your service.

I'm going to let you into a secret, Lance. As far as Internet marketing goes, Twitter absolutely sucks. It's a mess, and it's only got any use for those that are desperate enough to stalk the rich and famous. I've given up with it, but have plenty of success with Facebook pages. I don't use Facebook to sell. I use it to connect. Because I connect regularly, it brings people back to my websites (and my POS) more regularly. I've never made a dime through Twitter. It's easily automated claptrap that's heaven for spammers but hell for professionals.

Twitter has many purposes including trivial purposes and business networking. In order to see results you must target a niche group that are relevant to your business. Then engaging with them on a professional level by providing advice, useful content and valuable insight and in between all that you can market your product/service to that network.

Facebook works exactly the same way, it has many purposes and its quite easy to mess up a campaign by not focusing on a targeted group with interest in your product all the while you provide valuable content and knowledge.

I use Twitter but it's not a massive part of my business set-up. I automate Twitter posts through my websites so freshly-added articles are publicised through followers that are similar markets. It's all fairly simple and i don't have to waste time with it. I put more time into my FB pages because the interaction is easier and at a more personal level (somebody elses mentioned this on AT recently and I genuinely agree with it). Twitter will work better for some than others. It all depends what you want to get from it.
