Press releases are important online marketing tools that not only send out priceless snippet of information regarding your business, but they can also generate some welcome link juice that can improve your search engine rankings. Here's my checklist to writing your own great press releases:

Establish the reasons behind your press release. Are you promoting a service, trying to increase custom or updating information about your business? Always write your press releases with a specific goal in mind.
Target your audience. Make your press release appeal to those who need to read it.
Make sure the press release contains valuable information that can be used by your target audience.
Ensure there a need within the market that justifies your press release.
Establish what you would like readers to take away with them after the press release has been read.
Maintain credibility by making sure the press release is grammatically perfect with no spelling mistakes.
Be concise and don't try to be too wordy. Your words should remain punchy at all times.
Stick with the fact and don't elaborate.
Be topical. Submit your press release when similar themes are trending for maximum impact.

Remember that there's more to press releases than putting them on websites that are purpose-built for that type of activity. There are thousands, if not millions, of specialist sites that you can post your press releases to where they will reach a wider audience who will be more interested in anything you have to say. Don't forget specialist trade magazines - They also help to spread the word and if you can produce your release as a feature, you might even get a full page of 'advertising' very cheaply or for free.

I used to use the following website for finding and researching niche markets. It actually provides a great range of magazines where press releases could be used:
