Hey all

Been a while since I have posted as we have been engrossed with the startup of an alternative business, you have my sincere apologies.

Just need some ideas on how to write a successful employment ad.

We would be seeking an apprentice and as I have tried a few and have only found unsuitable people within the area, I thought there may be a way to find the right person.

We have been very specific in our adverts, only online, and still not having much luck.

Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance

have you thought about advertising in local schools and universities? or even in the local paper?

It believe depends on what the position is, if you are trying to employ an admin type trainee, or office based worker I would say online would be great, if however you are trying to employ more trade based apprentices, then maybe target the places where they will be looking for work, like papers, word of mouth, TAFE's etc..

The more specific you are the less responses you will get.

I know in my Industry, if I specify what I really want in a candidate I get a very minimal response. However, if I put a more broad requirement forward I end up with at least 10 times the response.

I know this may appear more time consuming, answering telephones, vetting applications etc, but you tend to find a lot more diamonds in the rough.

Just my experience.

I would recommend advertising in your local rag, we use the local free one. With the price of fuel these days, location means everything.

Good luck.
