Whats this all about?
As part of our recognition to our members and making sure everyone gets the best from this forum, we have implemented an advertising network that allows all our members to advertise their business across these forums for free!

But why would you want to advertsise on AussieTycoon?
As you may know, AussieTycoon (AT) is a forum with members from all over that have a vested interest in business and entrepreneurship. We are all looking to succeed in business and help other succeed, so what better way than helping each other out but to trade services with like minded people!

But its not just about the networking, AT is becoming one of the fastest growing Entrepreneur forums in Australia and is already indexed and ranked very highly within Google rankings for some great keywords as well as most of the other major search engines, we are constantly improving our search engine ranks and advertising strategies to get the best results for our forum and our members.

Check this out;

http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=australian+entrepreneur+forum&fr=yfp-t-501&ei=UTF-8

High rankings for us in search engines mean high ranking for our advertisers!

So how do you advertise and you said its FREE!?
Yep, that's right.. free! Basically what you need to do is earn Ad Credits on the forum, then you pay us with those Ad Credits in exchange for advertising space.. simple!

Each registered member gets given some ad credits to start with when they join the forum, you can see this on the left <-- under my profile details.

These Ad Credits increase the more activity you have on the forum.

It all sounds great, so how do you earn Ad Credits?
Earning credits is easy, all you need to be is an active member! You can earn points by doing some of the following;

· Start new threads
· Reply to posts
· Refer Friends
· Participate in Polls
· Bonus points for great posts!

Basically the more active you are on the forum, the more Ad Credits you earn, we want to reward our members for making sure we have a great community!

Great, so now you have credits, how do you buy Advertising Space?
We have two types of advertising spaces available;

> Text link advertising; The text links you can see to the right of the forum, these links are site wide (except for the front page), they show up on every single post, forum listing, thread etc.. We have 5 spaces open to members and these can be any website (within reason) you own, apart from affiliate advertising, or other advertising networks.

* A text link costs 400 Ad Credits and lasts for 1 month.

> Button Advertising; These are the 'Sponsored Links' images you see on the front page. These links only show up on the front page, but you get much more space and exposure, as well as giving you the ability to have a picture to represent your site, this is very valuable space and should get you lots of traffic.

* An image advertising space costs 650 Ad Credits and lasts 1 month.

Ok, so you are ready to advertise, where do you send your Ad Credits?
When you are ready to pay some Ad Credits for advertising, you need to pay me - AussieTycoon, this is very easy;

- Click User CP (Up the top
- Scroll down until on the left you see ' Ad Credits '
- Click Payments & Withdrawls
- In the Recipient box, type ' AussieTycoon '
- In Comments, type the site you would like to advertise
- In Amount, type the cost of the Ad (see above for costs)
- Then click 'Donate'

What will happen then is we will receive the credits and contact you to confirm the details, then set you advertisement up on the site!

All sounds very easy, what happens after the month?
At the end of the month, we will contact you to see if you want to continue, and if you do request that you pay the same amount of credits again to keep your ad there.

And that’s it!
We hope to make this network as easy to use as possible and we are open to suggestions and change as this system develops, so feel free to add your feedback and comments here.

Oh and if you have any questions, please ask!

Are there any limitations on the type of business you can advertise, or is it totally free-for-all?

It is at the decision of our team, ideally it is suited to SME's and websites owners. We will not accept any affiliate or external advertising cpc type links, nor anything we deem unsuitable, such as porn or anything illegal or unsuitable to minors.

We just want to advertise good, honest businesses!

Aha, well that rules one of our projects out :)

You do need to be a bit more specific when you're offering free advertising space y'know ... might want to edit the original post to reflect this. Looks like I won't be using any of those ad credits here!

This is a really great initiative. Everyone visiting this forum obviously has some entrepreneurial aspirations, skills and knowledge to share. I hope we all embrace this forum as an opportunity to help each other prosper. I know I will be.

First of all, this is great idea. Win-win arrangement deal.

But one must consider its effectiveness (ie. how do you measure the return on investment?). I'm seeing the trend that online ads, banners are getting less and less effective as people have all sorts of ad blocking software on their machines, especially for Firefox user like myself - having an Adblock Add On installed, i don't see any ads whatsoever on any websites on the internet. Yes, the adblock is getting smarter and smarter guys. We really need to think ahead and look for a new way to get real value from marketing cost.

We have had some pretty good feedback from our members who have taken advantage of using the free links.

I have even heard of a few people who have made some sales from it, so thats really rewarding to know.

I suppose you know that the services that are advertises, the business is actually a member of the forum.. maybe we could put the member name under the ad as well.. what do you think about that?

I'm not quite sure real benefit of that. Perhaps you could elaborate on this?

I am not sure I agree with this. While Firefox is increasing in popularity, most people will not run the full ad blocker. Meanwhile for IE and Chrome users, most standard ads will show (though I am pleased that pop over and pop under ads can be blocked).

Ads are part and parcel of life. They help fund free to air tv, free web and free radio. Do you want to have to pay for all these things ... or do you prefer an advertiser supported business model?

I just took a look at Aussie Tycoon advertiser Best Banner Ad Design Companies - Web Banner Ad Rankings (http://www.bestbannerdesigners.com) and clearly the top five banner ad companies listed on their site spend every day of their professional lives creating banner ads for people.

So it seems to me that the banner ad market remains very large and appears to have bounced back from the tech bust doldrums of 2002/3.

Oh, and one more thing, if you block banner ads you may miss very funny ads like this one - Bridge Worldwide 2009: Cannes Cyber Lions Gold - Pringles Can Hands (http://awardshome.com/cannes2009/pringles/can-hands.html) (yes, before anyone pulls me up I did pinch the URL from Best Banner Ad Design Companies - Web Banner Ad Rankings (http://www.bestbannerdesigners.com/)).

It sure made me laugh (just remember to keep clicking the ad)!

Then again, you may not be able to see it if you are blocking banner ads!

Thanks The Start Up Sage for the comment. It maybe true that most people don't use ad blocking software on their machines. But as i said earlier, i can see the trend of it. Consumers nowadays are getting more sophisticated so we all have to be on top of the game on marketing.

And don't get me wrong, ads are part of life and will continue to be that way. But my concern is about whether banner is really the effective method in reaching targeted market? If it's not should we then invest the time & money into other marketing methods that work? What are other marketing methods? It's another topic.
