I have been a subscriber of Springwise (Springwise: new business ideas for entrepreneurial minds. (http://www.springwise.com/)) for a while now and get their fortnightly newsletter on new businesses that are floating about around the world.

I have found a whole heap of inspiration from some of the innovative ideas that people come up with and have even used some of the concepts myself in my own businesses..

This lead me to think, what is it that inspires you guys, how do you get new ideas, stay innovative and ahead of the competition..?

I subscribe to Business news, trends and ideas for Australia’s small and medium business owners and entrepreneurs
(http://www.smartcompany.com.au) which sends out a daily newsletter that I find fun and informative.
They release great .pdf's every now and then and is full of some really positive reviews and interviews.

Other than that every day on my lunch break I take a walk away from my workplace and look over Port Phillip and dream about the future business (that involves the water!)
It helps me stay focussed on the big picture and not the day to day stress's of being a 9-5er

My best ideas come to me when a cup of black coffee (very bitter) is administered at the correct time. In all seriousness, this tends to get the cogs moving faster than anything else.

Silver_surfer, you are spot on - a good cup of coffee can solve a lot of things!

If I was to decide the best time that my brain starts working, I would have to say at about 11pm at night when I am walking my dog.. I always get brilliant ideas then.

Haha put me down for a coffee as well. But really - all that does for me is get my brain stimulated. So any equivalent stimulation will also do the trick...

I personally get my best ideas at the gym or whilst reading material on personal development.

A great blog to check out is DTAlpha (Steven Pierce)...his stuff always gets me inspired

Talking to people... it seems like at least once every week i get an idea from someone mentioning something they'd like or laughing about something with mates...

I find its just finding that really good idea thats the trick... or at least sticking to the good idea and not getting distracted by something else that looks promising lol
