hi Andy

Get your business listed on as many free listing directories as possible on the internet.
Our business is currently listed on 70 that I have found and I'm alwasys searching for more.
Also create a website for your business.

Generating leads can sometimes be pretty hard depending on what kind of business you want to run
But I've seen that many people that do IM, focus on making big adsense sites for the long run like ehow, about, etc

We work from home, but our proper business is mostly offline. So a yellow pages ad is what brings in the most business, followed closely by an ad in the local paper. Judging by google analytics, we get virtually zero results from online searches - but if you search for our kind of business in our area the google maps listing, yellow pages listing and several directories all with our phone number all come up above our homepage so our own page in the SERP barely counts.

I'd go for online marketing campaign, press release, email marketing campaign and online banner...Those are little but gives very big impact.

keep on keeping on...

I don't think it is a one size fits all situation. Different marketing approaches will work for different types of businesses. Once you find something that works, whether it be yellow pages, directories, billboard advertising or whatever you should do plenty of testing to fine tune and tweak it to get it right. Also, just because you have found one marketing approach that works don't get complacent, test other ones in case someone changes the rules on you and your first one doesn't work anymore.

To get your business off the ground and into the online realm, try building a brand around yourself or your company. This can be done on a free blogspot blog or for a few dollars a month on your own domain and hosting (which is what I recommend). Here if you can provide some unique and quality content, then you can build a good reputation for yourself and business may come in because people see you as an authority in that industry.

I would consider the likes of Affiliate marketing. You could start with free blogs if you really have to however you can buy a .com domain for under $10 and then host it for about $3.30 up per month. Find a niche, promote the site and build relationships with similar sites in the niche to generate traffic.

It doesn't take a huge amount of effort. here are a few steps to do what is needed.

1) determine the niche you want to chase. Do some keyword research
2) Go to Godaddy.com (http://Godaddy.com) for the domain name and register one that is keyword rich / one using the main keyword you want to chase.
3) Do a search for "Shared Hosting Australia" (I use suncoast hosting (http://www.suncoasthosting.com.au) as they have a good plan for $3.30 per month. For that price like other providers they do not offer support however they are upfront about it unlike the others. They have more expensive plans which include backups of your site plus technical support which I think is worth the extra $25 bucks.)
4) Install wordpress or Joomla. (Using fantastico).
5) Choose a theme from a template club which costs about $30. Install that in to the wordpress or joomla installation
6) create the content
7) Join an affiliate network like Neverblue (http://www.neverblue.com/signup/?ref=aff_115558)
8) Implement content in to the website
9) get affiliate links relating to the niche you have chosen from the likes of neverblue.
10) perform SEO / Internet marketing on the website. things like social bookmarking, article submissions, directory submissions and even google+ votes (visit http://www.plusonebuddy.com for google +1 votes) to pages / articles you promote that have links back to your site or even pages on your website.
11) wait, test, measure performance and repeat.

is this enough info Shazi?

hi shazi there is not a huge amount of seo experience / expertise required as you should outsource it.
