Jekara Threads is a new business which will be officially launched at the Perth "Every Woman Expo" to be held at the Perth Convention Centre in June 2008.
We offer to the the public a unique range of exclusive products aimed at people that are suffering from illness and require frequent medical treatment. Our products include a range of medical apparel for everyday wear which allows a patient to wear our products from home, to the shop and on to hospital without having to change, especially into those undignified hospital gowns. Our designer gowns are functional as an alternative to the standard hospital gown and the doctor will allow you to remain in your own hospital pants and top without having to change into the standard issue gown.

Our business is new and will be opening a physical shop in Perth at the end of 2008, until then our products are available online. We will be opening stores throughout Australia and New Zealand in the very near future.

Welcome to the forums Jekara, your business sounds very interesting, how did you come up with the idea?

G'day Brendan,
Our business was born from our existing retail fashion accessory business which included Turbans and soft hats for local cancer patients.

It didn't take us long to realize that there is a market for medical apparel, which also includes compression stockings, diabetic socks and sports injury support products. We searched everywhere to find a business that sells a specific range of products like ours and could only find chemist shops selling some of the products.
We decided to do more research and have started building the range of products and brands as a result of the research.

We are forunate to have secured exclusive distributor and selling rights in Australia and New Zealand for each of our products, which has taken us the last 18 months to finalize.

Some products are being held back at the moment because we have applied for our imported products to be certified by the Australian Therapeutics Administration, which is currently underway.

Our plan is to be a wholesaler, retailer and manufacturer and my ideal business is to create an Australian icon, a dream...maybe....but a desire none the less.

We are currently looking at having our own brand of surgical scrubs manufactured so we can sell direct to hospitals throughout Australia and New Zealand.

We aim to be a one stop shop for medical apparel for patients, nursing mothers and doctors.

It will be a slow but steady process, like I said the foundations are now laid by ensuring exclusivity is ours, as of June we will move forward and commence building the business.
