The old school prospecting methods of pounding the phones, holding business meetings and hounding your friends and family members to become business partners are all but over. Prospecting for business is really just an old school technique used by people who haven't yet discovered the principles of Attraction Marketing.
Before I explain further, just think for minute and compare today's social environment to the World we lived in just 15 years ago. These days, people are drowning under a flood of information and being bombarded by endless options and marketing noise, thanks to the internet.

Closing a deal or sale through, let's say, telephone may sound like a thing of the past with today's current information technology. I believe it's not really fair to say that the "old school" prospect method in reaching your target market is dead because whether we like it or not, it still works. Today, 43% of the call center industry in Australia is comprised of Telemarketing companies. While it's true that business are almost entirely happening online, it still pays to have someone over the phone for 100% real time communication in getting the deal done. What we actually need to do is to develop new telephone marketing strategies, don't you think? Just my 2 cents :)

Yes Indeed, I agree that the techniques we use must be constantly re-assessed and tweaked as required. However, I would rather have the 10 people who are really interested and committed to the business, who have joined of their own volition, than the 1000 people who I "closed" into joining.
By producing all of the relevant information and presenting it to people in a way that is informational, lets them make their own decision to buy and eases the "buyers remorse" that can cause relationship issues down the track.
I'll go to sleep happy that my customers have got what they wanted and are happy with their purchase.
All the BEST!

Old Methods of prospecting and selling will still be with us for years to come….of course in bound marketing has added another channel to market and has changed the way we do business. Obliviously if you are “retailing” product or services directly to the consumer then in bound marketing will have a greater importance to selling product and more so as time goes on.
In a B2B model it will probably have less impact however still a very important part of the selling process. A discussion I had with a very successful business person yesterday on this very subject and it went something like this. “I rate number one for a keyword on Google for about 150 local search each month….my competitors try to do a end to end sales process with a buying cart etc….I don’t if they want prices they have to ring and I get my 30 odd phone calls per week and I close most of these either then or in the near future. Basically they want service and I give it to them a computer can’t.”
Maybe as time goes on may he will have to add an end to end sells process, but right now…….
