View Full Version : Increasing Sales for a Website Design Business

Hi guys I have a website design business that services mainly small businesses around Australia. We get 50% of our work through natural Google listings and about 40% from existing clients which leaves only 10% from other sources. We use adwords to a limited extent but the costs concern me a little but as its a very competitive industry so I only use it for niche terms.

We also have our small business blog and other things that engage existing clients but I'm interested in more ways to generate new clients.

I've tried a few things in the past but I've been naturally a bit skeptical about other forms of marketing. One thing I've thought about is hiring a sales person and offering them a % stake in the business.

Does anyone have any experiences of things that have worked well for them?

Why don't you just hire a sales person and pay them a commission for every sale? Seems overkill to me to give away a piece of your business for something like a sales job.

Well because i don't think I could afford to pay for someone who was good enough to really bring in a large increase in work. I guess I could try and put a focus on the commission although if I was significantly increasing my cost per sale I would really have to increase the costs I charge my customers (all of my customers pay the same costs - they are all advertised) and I don't really want to turn my current customers away. I figured the equity in the business would help attract someone who is thinking long term and who is extra-committed to making it a success. Its all theoretical until I try it I guess but if we end up doing 3 times as much work and I only own half I'm still better off right.

Yeah I guess you have to pick the solution that's best for your situation. If paying them in a standard arrangement won't work then you may need to look at some kind of equity agreement or something.

trustme dont bother about a sales person.

Most people have learned to subconciasly ignore such people.

Spend time optimising your website. It looks great but it could perform better tha it does. you rank on page 1 for gold coast web design, now spend some time and rank for Brisbane Web Design.. that alone should bring in much more work for you.

You have a PR of 5 andoptimising for other keywords should not be too hard.
