Hey All,

I am currently designing a new business in IT consulting that is based on a new innovative business model - which I am very excited about! (watch this space)

I am however having trouble finding the right market research statistics for the IT industry, to be specific how what, why, where SME's spend their money when it comes to IT Support/Consulting.

I have had a look at the ABS, the ACS and a few other research type places, but nothing really to sink my teeth into.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find some more market data?

Thanks in advance.
Brendan

Brendan its great that you are researching before leaping into anything, this is imperative if you wish to thrive.

Have you thought about calling up some companies that are the type you would target?

Just a simple "Hi are you the Business owner?"
if they say no say "Hi im a uni student just doing some research for an assignment, would i be able to speak with the person who looks after the IT purchasing?"

Once you have made contact, just start asking some questions.
You may get some knock backs but because your not trying to sell them anything all you want is some questions answered you will find people quite receptive.

Remember to have a list of questions already typed out, so you come across professional and so that it is just like an assignment would be.

Your best research is going to come from your actual target market, yes ABS is good for things like % of male population age range of 25-30 in a particular suburb, but not the best for things like how business owners think. and what infulences their purchases.
