Brendan,
Yeah i've been using it since september last year...getting a good number of followers, tweet a lot with hootsuite so i can pre-set everything.
Getting clicks and traffic moving to sites that i want however with current data i still am not yet convinced i'm bringing in quality leads though?

We've used Twitter on past projects and mainly had success building back links from it as part of an SEO strategy.
Google does seem to really like Twitter at the moment, their page rank is epic. I do though remain unconvinced of it's ability to bring in tangible leads. I suspect a lot of it comes down to what you wish to market through the channel and does it fit well into a tweet that will be picked up by others.

I'm using it for Silk Interiors. I uploaded a new article to our website last night, added it to Twitter and now this morning I've received an email alert from Google letting me know there's a new article online. So I agree with the sentiment that Google likes twitter.

Thanks Silk. Not sure how useful it is but thanks anyway. We have just added a new quote today. For those who can't be bothered clicking through it is:
"The link between my experience as an entrepreneur and that of a politician is all in one word: freedom" - Silvio Berlusconi

I think Twitter is a long term strategy. You need lots of followers for it to be worthwhile but you won't have lots of followers until you start posting and post regular useful content.
eg. you may post a regular quote but also post weekly specials you are having. Maybe they are Twitter only specials. People now have a reason to follow you. Then you can post other things like when new products come in etc.
I'm following everyone in this thread now, please feel free to return the favour! :)

Interesting - I've dabbled with Twitter in the past but haven't had time to dedicate to it.
Have just signed on with another site and am pushing pretty hard - have now got 1001 followers so that's all happened pretty quickly - most them are automated so probably not a lot of use but it's good to get a critical mass though. traffic is up a little bit so will keep pushing for a little while longer. BTW follow me if your interested. http://www.twitter.com/seekoodles

Yep! I'm using twitter probably at least twice a week.
It's good to spread leads...but not everyone is on it or really at it for 24 hours so it's harder to catch up.

I mistrust a lot of it arrives down to what you like to market through the carry and does it fit well into a tweet that will be blamed up by others.Google does look to really like Twitter at the instant, their page rank is heroic. I do though stay unconvinced of it's power to bring in palpable leads.

Twitter doesnt have to be extremely difficult. I dont think you need to post up every second. Post your success stories thats about it. But dont think you need to shift a mountain to be successful. Simply posting that you satisfied a client today.
Twitter needs to be targeted as well. You have to get people to follow you, but if all those people are spammers based in the US its not going to be much use at all.
Personally I find it easier to use facebook. Telling all my family and friends what Im doing, and when of their extended family or friends asks them in real life - face to face about something I offer, Oh Noel does that, give him a call. And if they do, Im almost instantly out of the tender process - word of mouth.
Happy hunting.

I like Twitter to keep up with my online friends and announcements of new webpages. I also make money using Twitter. I tweet my content and I get a nice amount of traffic that way. I've used to meet new clients, talked to top bloggers, gotten backlinks and increased my page rank.

Hi Brendan
Twitter is great, you can have a fuller experience with your social media browsing if you view your feeds through a program such as Tweetdeck or Hootsuite.
There are also many other social media sites that will increase the size of your sales funnel.
The three major ones are facebook, twitter and myspace, with others always on the way up.
facebook is extremely powerful, moreso than twitter, myspace is struggling to maintain relevancy although is still used by many people
You will find me on Twitter @jasebishop

I have many friends using Twitter too. Some of them using this platform to promote their own brands and re-direct people to shopping cart.

I am also using twitter - follow me @ enitiative_site, I am not convinced of it's usefulness yet, but I only have 217 followers. As people have said there is a lot of spam on there, and a lot of people just follow as many people as possible so that they'll get followed back. Therefore there isn't a lot of relevant, targeted following. A great site I have used is twellow.com (Twitter Yellow Pages) There you can browse Twitterers by their interests. This makes it easier to target specific people who fit with your target market.

Twitter is one of the soaring social networks, which is quite prominent among general users as well among business persons who want to address multitudes.

I have a love hate relationship with Twitter…..as far as Social media and SEO goes it is a must.
You can generate lots of traffic to a web site however it is very untargeted….good if you have a universal product say ebooks……to get targeted traffic you really need to have strategy before you start, but simply put build relationships in your targeted market.
Having a large following takes a lot of work but you can automate a lot of this I use a software package called Tweetattacks and I prefer Twaitter (which is free) to automate tweets. Remember Twitter doesn’t like you twittering the same massage over over again and can get you banned. The main Benefit of having a large following is your tweets are more likely to be RT’ed and if you are twittering a link to your website this is very powerful.
Twittering a link to your site Google will go to your site and crawl it.
An RT’d Tweet of your site creates a back link to your site and Google likes this
Twittering a link to your site it will send traffic to your site
Builds your brand awareness
adds reach to your Inbound Marketing Strategy

In twitter you will know the trending or the latest news on what happening around the world..This is also a great way to communicate to your customer or targeted visitor, by your post they can get to know what is the latest about your site/product/service..

I agree with Hudson it is untargeted, but SEO and refereals do help. I think facebook can be more targeted as you can say more - but they are all worth having as another medium.

Almost everyone online wants to have a twitter account. However i could sense it only works best if you're a star who has a public following.

Twitter is a spam festival. It is a blight on mankind.
I've come to the same conclusion. My business account is a pointless animal that sends me nothing but links to crap I'm never going to have an interest in. My personal account is very worthwhile though as it allows me to stalk famous people.

A forum can be anything from an online chat room to a networking group, but forums in any form have always been handy for small business owners.
