Since the majority of us are based in Australia you may have missed the hype that surrounded the Superbowl.. and Google's first television commercial.

Traditionally, google hasnt really advertised and have pretty much lead the search engine race.. so why do you think they chose to advertise? Brand awareness? To prove a point? To show they are proactive?
Or do you think they can feel search engines like bing biting at their ankles?
